Obama's Favorite Thugs Strike Again

The SEIU (Service Employees International Union) is very close to President Obama. Their chief visited the White House almost 20 times in 2009. But their tactics sometimes cross the line:

Last Sunday, on a peaceful, sun-crisp afternoon, our toddler finally napping upstairs, my front yard exploded with 500 screaming, placard-waving strangers on a mission to intimidate my neighbor, Greg Baer. Baer is deputy general counsel for corporate law at Bank of America (BAC, Fortune 500), a senior executive based in Washington, D.C. And that -- in the minds of the organizers at the politically influential Service Employees International Union and a Chicago outfit called National Political Action -- makes his family fair game.

Waving signs denouncing bank "greed," hordes of invaders poured out of 14 school buses, up Baer's steps, and onto his front porch. As bullhorns rattled with stories of debtor calls and foreclosed homes, Baer's teenage son Jack -- alone in the house -- locked himself in the bathroom. "When are they going to leave?" Jack pleaded when I called to check on him.

Later in the article, Easton, who is a veteran journalist, describes how this "mob" had not followed the usual practice of notifying the major media outlets. So the major goal of the exercise was purely to intimidate an executive of a major bank.

Maybe Obama can convince them to control their thuggish tactics?  We'll wait and see. (Just don't hold your breath while you wait, ok?)

Who are these TEA Partiers?

Myth-busting polls: Tea Party members are average Americans, 41% are Democrats, independents

From LA Times blog, here.

Earthquake in Chile

Wall Street Journal (WSJ) columnist Bret Stephens says there is a link between Chile's prosperity and the relatively low death toll from the massive earthquake there (2/27/2010). He credits Milton Friedman with guiding Chile to their current prosperity:

Deep Blue Territory

This Desi Gopi lives in the Bay Area of California. It is deep Blue territory. The Congressional districts in and around the Bay Area are all represented by Democrats. We hear about the TEA parties held around the country, attended by thousands of people. The TEA parties in the Bay Area were not so popular. Only about 200 people attended the TEA party I went to, back in July.

Republicans are a lonely lot in the Bay Area! I have always been curious to know why.

What's One More Blog Among Friends?

I will write a detailed post about why I wanted to write this blog. Maybe later, when I get a little more time. For starters, let me just say that I will post topics which interest me as a Desi and a Republican watching the American political scene. (desi = of my country, in Hindi)
